The Old Lady and the Hen

A greedy old lady lived in a town. She raised a hen that laid an egg every day. One day, she hit upon an idea. “If I give the hen twice as much food, she will lay twice as many eggs.“ So she started to feed the hen more. But the hen kept laying an egg a day. She thought that she had to give it more food. She gave the hen more and more food. A few days later, the hen couldn't lay any eggs at all, because it was too fat to lay eggs.

할머니와 암탉 

옛날 어느 마을에 욕심꾸러기 할머니가 살고 있었어요. 그 할머니는 하루에 꼭 하나씩 알을 낳는 암탉을 기르고 있었어요. 그런데 어느 날 이 할머니가 닭을 물끄러미 바라보며 이런 생각을 하게 되었어요. ‘만약 내가 이 암탉에게 주는 모이를 두 배로 늘려준다면, 이 녀석은 두 배로 알을 낳겠지?’ 할머니는 속으로 기뻐하며, 다음 날부터 모이를 두 배로 주기 시작했어요. 그런데 며칠간은 이 암탉은 그대로 하나씩 낳는 거였어요. 할머니는 다시 생각했어요. ‘모이를 더 줘봐야겠군.’ 할머니는 모이를 더 많이 주기 시작했어요. 그러나 며칠이 지난 후부터는 암탉이 더 이상 알을 낳지 않는 거였어요. 암탉은 너무 뚱뚱해서 알을 낳을 수가 없게 되었어요.​
