Two Goats

A creek flowed through a forest. There was a bridge across the creek. Every animal needed to be careful when crossing the bridge. One day, a goat stood at each end of the bridge. Each goat thought the other should make way for him, but neither would give way to the other. "Oh, you didn't make room for me." Finally, they met halfway. "You get out of my way!" "No! You get off!" And they started to fight. After a while, they both fell into the deep water. In the water, they felt bad about their behavior and said, "Oh, I should have let you pass.” But by then it was too late for regret.

두 마리의 염소

어느 숲속에 큰 시냇물이 흐르고 있었어요. 이 시냇물에는 달랑 통나무로 된 외나무다리가 있었죠. 모든 동물들은 이 다리를 건널 때 물에 빠지지 않게 항상 조심해야만 했어요. 그러던 어느 날 염소 두 마리가 다리의 양 끝에 서게 되었어요. 하지만 이 두 친구는 모두 상대가 양보를 해줄 거라 굳게 믿고 다리 위로 올라갔죠. 그런데 서로에게 길을 내어주지 않았어요. “어라, 이 녀석이. 비키질 않네.” 결국은 다리의 중간에서 서로 마주치게 되었죠. “비켜.” “네가 비켜.” 그러다가 두 염소는 싸우기 시작했어요. 잠시 후 두 염소는 결국 함께 물속에 빠지고 말았어요. 두 염소는 그제서야 후회했어요. ‘내가 비켜줄걸...’ ‘내가 비켜줄걸...’ 하지만 후회해도 때는 이미 늦어버렸죠.​
